About the exhibition
The exhibition in the series "Our Most Beautiful...Nianhuas" shows true treasures of a donation from 2019. A Frankfurt collector gave the Gutenberg Museum an extensive collection of these colorful woodblock prints from China, which are a popular tradition in Chinese folk art to protect against evil spirits during the new lunar year. But the colorful cards, which decorate front doors with their floral motifs, are also said to bring good luck.
In the exhibition series "Our most beautiful...", the Gutenberg Museum presents both Nianhuas and a selection of specially designed European greeting cards - some of which are original prints.
