Notes for the World
July 16th to January, 9th, 2022
About the exhibition
The focus of the new special exhibition is on high-caliber loans, including from the Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nuremberg and the Bavarian State Library in Munich, as well as highlights from the Schott Verlag archive and the museum collection. "The exhibits reflect the landmarks of European music history as well as important stations in the history of notation," says curator Prof. Dr. Maria Linsmann-Dege. The special exhibition provides an overview of important stages in the 250-year history of Schott-Verlag, which was founded by Bernhard Schott in Mainz in 1770 and is today considered one of the oldest and most traditional music publishers in the world. To honor this great anniversary is a special concern for us, says the director of the Gutenberg Museum, Dr. Annette Ludwig. The highlight of the exhibition, the original score of Richard Wagner's "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" from 1866/67, on loan from the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg, will be a special highlight. The Gutenberg Museum also offers audio examples of selected exhibits in the special exhibition, so that the exhibition promises to be not only a feast for the eyes, but also for the ears.
